A Successful 1st Manila Food and Wine Festival Four-day event raises scholarship fund for CulinaryEducation Foundation   Thousands of foodies, gourmands, and Pinoys who simply loveto eat, trooped to Block 12 of the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds lastFebruary 22 to take part in the Celebrity Cook-Off Challenge, the kick-offactivity of the 1st Manila Food and Wine Festival (MFWF).

 

Organized by the Culinary Education Foundation (CEF) inpartnership with the Department of Tourism, the event was the first of its kindin the country which pitted six of the country’s culinary masters in onedelicious race to showcase their exceptional talent in cooking on board theirfood trucks.   Chef Sau Del Rosario of Food Garage and VillaCafe, Chef Robby Goco of Cyma, Chef Florabel Co-Yatco ofthe Florabel restaurants, Chef Bruce Lim of the Asian FoodChannel, Chef Marvin Agustin of the Sumo Sam chain, and top culinaryendorser Chef Tristan Encarnacion battled it out during the eventwhich celebrated food and hospitality via the theme, 'Cooking Revolution 20 '.

 

Chef Sau went daring with his dimsum specials pairí withthe flavorful fried rice. Chef Robby, on the other hand, sold hiscrowd-favorite porchetta or crispy pork sandwiches with special sauce. ChefMarvin prepared two of his signature sushi to the delight of Japanese foodfans, while Chef Bruce unveiled his special renditions of the tasty chickenwings. Chef Tristan had people lining-up for his Pinoy bagnet – served withthree types of sauces: kare-kare, binagoongan, and sinamak. But ultimately, itwas Chef Florabel who won the friendly competition with her ‘sausages of theworld’ sandwiches served with gourmet nachos on the side. It was all soldout early in the evening!

 

The winner of the competition was announced during theelegant MFWF Gala Dinner hosted by the Asian Food Channel last February 25 atthe Makati Shangri-La Hotel.  Chef Florabel now has the honor ofbeing the country’s 1st Celebrity Food Truck Cook-Off winner.  Butthe MFWF’s ultimate winners are the 500 individuals who will be provided withculinary scholarships.  Proceeds from the MFWF events were forwarÞdto the Culinary Education Foundation which is founded and headed by Susana P.Guerrero.

 

“We are very much thankful to all our friends, partners, andsponsors for all the help in making the 1st MFWF a success. This event isa realization that we can all come together and join forces for a goodcause.  We will truly change the lives of those who need it most andthrough the culinary scholarships, we will not just ‘feed them for a day, butfeed them for a lifetime’,” said Ma’am Annie.   MFWF is supported by the Department of Tourism, SM Mall ofAsia, Ticket Source, Sysu International Corp.
